Haiti - Economy : Weekly maritime freight transport between the Dom. Rep. and Haiti
From the third week of March 2022, exporting entrepreneurs from the Dominican Republic and Haiti will have at their disposal a new maritime connection to send and receive goods.

To this end, the international company "DP World Caucedo" will commission and operate a ship for the weekly transport of cargo between the two countries of the island.

Ramón Badía, Director of Operations of DP World Caucedo, explained that the ship will make a weekly stopover from Caucedo (Santo-Domingo) to Haiti, and vice versa, leaving on Wednesday for Haiti and returning to the Dominican Republic the following Tuesday. Badía explained that the ship would transport all kinds of goods from the country to Haiti, both national exports but also transfers of goods from Europe and Asia.

Recall that the Dominican Republic exports mainly by land, various goods to Haiti, including cotton fabrics and other textiles, different types of cement, wheat flour, oils, steel products and plastics, among others...

According to available information, the route that this cargo ship will take would be along the south coast of the island.

In addition, Víctor Bisonó, the Minister of Dominican Ministry of Industry, Commerce and SMEs said "although DP World starts with one ship, this number can be increased if necessary up to three to make maritime trade more intense. between the two countries, which will reduce road traffic [and smuggling] between the two countries and be safer.é

It should be noted that exporting by sea has always been the means favored by Haiti in order to more easily collect customs taxes on imported products.
