Haiti - FLASH : A gang leader in prison in Fort-Liberté buys his release for US$80,000
The Haitian authorities arrested the divisional inspector, Desrosiers D. Joseph, Head of the Fort-Liberté Prison, 2 police officers Gérald Bien-Aimé and Jean Snyder Midy as well as Fednel Beauvais, a bailiff of the Court of First Instance of Fort-Liberté. They are accused of using forgery and forgery in writing and of having released the gang leader Jean Samy Dorvil aka "Ti Samy" last weekend against a sum of 80,000 US dollars.

The police are actively looking for "Ti Sammy" accused of murder, criminal association, armed robbery, rape and illegal possession of firearms, informed Tuesday, April 5 the Government Commissioner of Fort-Liberté Me Eno Zephyrin adding that the investigation was ongoing and that other people might be implicated in this corruption case.

Let's recall that in the report of the United Nations Security Council published last February, pointed out that the Haitian judicial system "[...] continues to present serious structural weaknesses [...] and deep-rooted corruption remains a major obstacle [...]"
