Haiti - FLASH : The earthquake in the North
On Wednesday April 6, 2022, at 2:15 and 40 seconds in the afternoon, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale was recorded, the epicenter of which was located at 19.830° North latitude and 72.270° West longitude to 7.5km at sea north of the city of Labadee (North Dept.), 13.3 km northwest of Cap-Haitien (North Dept.), 137km north of Port-au-Prince (West Dept.), at a depth of 28 km.

No loss of life or damage has been reported so far by the Civil Protection in relation to this earthquake.

Let's recall that on May 7, 1842 an earthquake of magnitude 8.1 on the Richter scale, destroyed the city of Cap-Haitien killing half of its 10,000 inhabitants, the stunami that followed claimed 300 more victims.

According to experts, the northern fault, which is believed to be the source of this earthquake, has been slowly accumulating energy for nearly 180 years and its release could cause earthquakes of magnitude greater than 7.
