Haiti - Environment : 108 earthquakes recorded in the country in April 2022
A 39.67% drop in the number of earthquakes compared to March 2022 or 179 earthquakes were recorded (71 fewer earthquakes)
Among the earthquakes recorded, three of them, of magnitude 4 to 5.3 on the Richter scale, whose epicenter was located in the department of Grande Anse, were felt by the population.
85 earthquakes (78.7%) had a magnitude less than or equal to 3.
75 earthquakes (69.44%) occurred at a depth less than or equal to 10 km.
77 (71.3%) occurred at sea: 1 along the North Hispaniola fault, 4 along the northern fault, 3 along the Enriquillo Plantain Garden fault and 69 along the North Grand'Anse / Nippes system, this which could have presented a risk of tsunami if the conditions had been met.
98 earthquakes (90.74%) were located in the 3 departments affected by the earthquake of August 14, 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes-updated-10am.html (8 in the South, 15 in Nippes and 75 in Grand'Anse). These three departments therefore continue to suffer the aftershocks of the major earthquake (7.2 on the Richter scale https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes.html ) which devastated the great South on August 14, 2021.
