Haiti - 219th of the flag : Speech by Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry
Wednesday, May 18, 2022, as part of the 219th anniversary of the Haitian bicolor and the celebration of the University, the Prime Minister, a.i. Ariel Henry, in the presence of the Ministers of the Government, representatives of the constituted bodies of the State, the diplomat corps and local authorities, attended the Eucharistic celebration at Saint Pierre de l'Arcahaie church. Then Ariel Henry deposited a floral offering at the feet of the statues of the Founding Father, Jean-Jacques Dessalines and Catherine Flon, as a sign of recognition of the Nation for this land they bequeathed to us before delivering a short speech to the Nation.

Prime Minister's Speech :

"On May 18, 2022, we came to reflect, to remember the greatness of soul, the collective spirit, the sense of sacrifice of these women and men who bequeathed this land of freedom to us.

On May 18, 2022, as we commemorate the creation of our flag, we think of the generosity of Catherine Flon who, beyond time, invites us to reclaim the fervor and aspirations that led to the victory of 1804.

Our flag, the result of a national consensus, must inspire us, in order to rediscover this unitary spirit, essential for the survival of the Nation. We must banish around us the divisions that are eating away at us and undermining the stability of our country.

It is imperative to strengthen the framework of permanent, institutional, inclusive dialogue between us Haitians, with a view to sharing the ideals of living together, of the common good, of love for this land which is so dear to us and which we have the duty to rebuild together.

The government works tirelessly to create security for the people to choose their replacements in good elections. Only in this way will the country be able to enhance stability and create more opportunities for investment, job creation and reduction in the cost of living.

Today, the country must be at the side of the youth. We must not let young people lose hope, because a country where young people do not see the way of tomorrow is a country without a future.

The flag is a symbol of unity. This should help us to stick together, to move forward together and to succeed together. The future of our children, the development of our country depends on cooperation. We must not continue with divisions and torn pits, which will get us nowhere.

We have only one flag : the blue flag and the red flag.
We have a country : dear Haiti.

Long live the Haitian people!
Live the union under the same flag!
Long live Haiti!

Haitian people, we must not be afraid.
Bandits cannot win this battle.
The united people always win.

May 18 is also University Day. As a reservoir of gray matter, called upon to fuel reflection, it must be able to play its role as a catalyst for development and as a repository of ideals and civic values for the refoundation of the common Fatherland"
