Haiti - Justice : The General Administration of Customs raided

On Friday May 20, 2022, investigators from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) carried out a search of the premises of the General Customs Administration (AGD).

This search follows "suspicions of corruption denounced within the AGD", specifies a note bearing the signature of Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph of the Director General of the ULCC,

In consideration of these suspicions of corruption, Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph opened an investigation into the AGD in accordance with article 11 of the decree of September 8 establishing the ULCC,

Note that the day before this search (coincidence ?) Rommel BELL, the Director General of the General Administration of Customs had published a note denouncing a defamatory campaign undertaken against him and against the AGD.

Note from Rommel BELL :

"I, the undersigned Rommel BELL, Director General of the General Administration of Customs, have taken note of the intense defamatory campaign undertaken against me and against the Institution that I lead, even involving us in arms trafficking.

I would like to denounce these malicious maneuvers and reiterate that since March 13, 1995, I have been an employee of the General Customs Administration. I climbed all the levels there up to the position of Director, which earned me the appointment of Director General on September 24, 2018. I made my declaration of assets in accordance with the law.

In the performance of my duties, I always seek respect for the law and the good of the community.

Done in Port-au-Prince on May 19, 2022."
