Haiti - 27th anniversary of the PNH : Heavy toll of the last 12 months

June 12, 2022 brings back the commemoration of the 27 years of existence of the National Police of Haiti (PNH). In this circumstance, the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) wanted to draw the attention of the population in a well-documented report, on the recurring cases of murders of police officers, the general working conditions of the agents of the PNH among others...

The report reveals that from June 17, 2021 to June 6, 2022, at least 44 PNH officers were killed, including 21 between January 1 and June 6, 2022, an average of four (4) police officers per month.

During this same period, the armed bandits targeted several police stations, sub-police stations, antennas as well as fixed patrols of police officers. At least 11 armed attacks were reported.

The report points out that both in Port-au-Prince and in the provincial towns, the police do not have adequate or sufficient equipment to carry out their work properly.

The report reveals that police officers in remote areas have no means of transport at their disposal, have no bulletproof vests, helmets, handcuffs, raincoats or sufficient ammunition and that their communication radios are for the most defective...
