Haiti - USA : New American Chargé d'affaires in Haiti
Three months after the departure from Haiti of Kenneth H. Merten, the American authorities have finally appointed his replacement. This is Ambassador Eric W. Stromayer who took office on July 1st, 2022, as Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Port-au-Prince, where he assumes the role of Chargé d'affaires, a.i.

A career diplomat in the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counsellor, Eric Stromayer recently served as United States Ambassador to the Togolese Republic.

During his 32-year career in the Diplomatic Service, he served in important positions, including as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa and Sudan in the Bureau of African Affairs (2018-2019).

Stromayer holds a license from Northwestern University (1982), and an master from Johns Hopkins SAIS (1986). He is the recipient of numerous awards from the Department of State. He is fluent in French, Haitian Creole, Italian, Hungarian and Wolof (the most spoken language in Senegal) and a little Spanish.
