Haiti - Security : Additional aid of $48 million from the United States

On Friday, July 8, in a video posted on social media, US Under Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said "333I am proud to announce $48 million in additional security assistance through of the United States Department of State's Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement to bolster security across the country," the official said in a video posted to Twitter.

She also assured that Washington is committed to supporting a democratic and prosperous future for the Haitian people, and recalled that Haiti has not yet recovered from the devastating 2021 earthquake of magnitude 7.2 which devastated the southern peninsula https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes.html while rising food prices and fuel makes the situation particularly difficult for citizens and that millions of Haitians will need humanitarian aid this year https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36798-haiti-humanitarian-25-million-haitians-will-need-humanitarian-aid-in-2022.html

In addition, she pointed out that the assassination that occurred a year ago (July 7, 2021 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34162-haiti-flash-president-jovenel-moise-assassinated-by-mercenaries-official-updated-7am-+-video.html ) affected the political system, and reaffirmed the need for a dialogue between the living forces of the Nation.
