Haiti - Subcontracting : Loss of 4,000 jobs by the end of the year
The Haitian subsidiary S&H Global of the South Korean textile group Sae-A, which currently employs 10,000 Haitians announced that by the end of the year up to 4,000 jobs (40% of its workforce) will be cut...

“Due to the recent economic decline in the US market, 45% of orders from our US retail customers have been cancelled,” announced S&H Global, which supplies the Gap, Target and Walmart brands, among others.

This next drastic reduction in industrial activities comes as Haiti is going through a deep political crisis, a year after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, with no election in sight to fill the power vacuum and the police force don't have the human or material resources to prevent the progression of gangs across the country.

In a failing economy for several decades, an almost non-existent international tourism due to insecurity, subcontracting factories are the main provider of formal jobs with nearly 50,000 employees currently.
