Haiti - Politic : «D-Day», Will China will use his veto for the renewal of BINUH's mandate ? 15/07/2022 10:54:00 In its proposals, China also requested that the Security Council be able to impose individual sanctions (asset freezes, travel bans) against gang leaders within 30 days of the adoption of the resolution. The US-Mexico text would consider this possibility but within 90 days... Another mention wanted by Beijing asking the UN Chief to study with Latin American countries the sending of a regional police force to support the Haitian security forces, does not seem to appear in the last text of Washington and Mexico, according to a diplomatic source... For its part, the Center for Analysis and Research in Human Rights (CARDH), a Haitian civil society organization believes that beyond appearances this is leading a fight behind the scenes, far from the spotlight, between two positions. The first (China and allies) would like Haiti to be returned to Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, which would open the door to yet another Mission for Peace (military / police). The second (United States and allies) would like Haiti to remain under Chapter 6 of the Charter, which would allow for a multilateral police force that would oversee the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in its efforts to create elections... We wonder if the Washington-Beijing conflict (which seems much more important than Haiti) will not push China to veto the text drafted by the United States... Answer in a few hours...
