Haiti - Education : Schools can help «disarm violence»
Friday, July 29, 2022 at a press conference, the Minister of National Education Nesmy Manigat, accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry and two Technical Directors announced that the date of the start of the 2022-2023 school year (children from preschool to those in vocational and technical schools) is set for September 5, 2022.

Despite the difficult context that Haiti is going through, the Minister encouraged parents to prepare their children to return to school, insisting "A country like Haiti, which is facing great difficulties, has no interest in students missing school days."

So that the 2022-2023 school year can start in peace and tranquility, the Minister asked representatives of all sectors of the country not to stop seeking the path of citizen dialogue to facilitate the reopening of all schools everywhere in the country emphasizing "If this is not done, in many regions of the country, particularly in Port-au-Prince and in the municipalities of the metropolitan area, many school doors will not be able to reopen due to the armed violence."

The Minister says he is convinced that it is the conclusion of this dialogue that will allow 4 million children and young people to return to school peacefully so that they can continue to prepare themselves to face life and to take responsibility in as citizens, towards their country.

"Remember that violence grows in the head before going through the arms. It is the school that can help to 'disarm violence'. All Haitians who really love the country : give school a chance !" concluded the Minister.
