Haiti - Education : The Digicel Foundation goes far beyond its promise
After the earthquake of August 14, 2021 in the great South https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34479-haiti-flash-magnitude-72-earthquake-in-the-nippes-updated-10am.html the Foundation Digicel had promised to allocate a budget of 1 million dollars to help rebuild destroyed schools in the affected regions. However, given the very large number of requests received, the Foundation has decided to reinforce its pledge by donating an additional US$764,246, or a total of just over US$1.7 million.

The Digicel Foundation recalls that its actions are ad hoc when it was necessary to provide emergency relief to affected families, but they also aim for long-term objectives.

Since the earthquake, a campaign had been launched to receive requests (application) from educational institutions wishing to see their buildings rebuilt. A total of 79 applications had been received and school reconstruction work had been underway since last year.

According to well-defined criteria and following field visits by engineers from the Foundation, four of these schools will benefit from new infrastructures. More than 40 classrooms and other necessary facilities are being built for the benefit of the National Congregational School of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Latibolière (Grande-Anse), the United Brothers College in Ravine Sable (South), the Paul VI School of Vieux Bourg (South) and the National Congregational School St Michel de Charpentier (South).

The Digicel Foundation would like to particularly thank "Hope for Haiti" and the "W. K. Kellog Foundation" for their much appreciated contribution to the realization of these projects.
