Haiti - Dominican Republic : More than 57,000 Haitians expelled in 7 months

According to statistical data from the Directorate General of Migration (DGM), between January and July 2022, the Dominican Republic expelled and returned to the border 57,764 Haitians who lived on Dominican territory in an irregular migratory situation.

This is a 23% increase from the year before the Covid-19 pandemic and the border closure.

Government health measures and restrictions havinng affected the functioning of the General Directorate of Migration, in charge of repatriations in 2020 and 2021.

Deportations of Haitian nationals represented over the first 7 months of the year 99.93% of all deportations of foreigners. Added to this number are the voluntary returns of Haitians to Haiti, which from January to July are estimated at at least 50,000.
