Haiti - Health : 72% increase in confirmed cases of cholera in 48 hours

Situation of cholera on October 6, 2022 and its progression in Haiti, according to the Department of Epidemiology, Laboratories and Research (DELR) of the Ministry of Public Health:

Total suspected cases: 170 cases +53.1% (October 5: 111 cases)

Total confirmed cases: 19 cases +72.2% (October 5: 11 cases)

Total suspected cases hospitalized: 135 cases +26.1% (October 5: 107 cases)

Total institutional death: 5 cases +150% (October 5: 2 cases)

Distribution of suspected cases:
1-4 years: 40 cases
5-9 years: 24 cases
10-14 years: 8 cases
15-19 years old: 7 cases
20-29 years old: 23 cases
30-39 years: 22 cases
40-49 years old: 17 cases
50-59 years: 15 cases
60-69 years old: 3 cases
70-79 years: 4 cases
80 years and over: 2 cases

55.29% men
44.71% women

Samples received: 152 +192% (October 5: 52 cases)
Tests carried out: 37 + 60.8% (October 5: 23 cases)
Pending tests 115 +296% (October 5: 29 cases)

Distribution of suspected cases:
Central Department:
Mirebalais: 2 cases (unchanged)

West Department:
Cité Soleil: 70 cases +70.7% in 48 hours
Croix-des-Bouquets: 1 case (unchanged)
Delmas: 9 cases +12.5% in 48 hours
Petion-ville: 4 cases (unchanged)
Port-au-Prince: 84 cases +52.7% in 48 hours

Departmental definitions:
Suspicious Case:
Anyone with acute watery, profuse diarrhea, with or without vomiting, with or without dehydration.

Probable case:
Any suspected case with a positive rapid diagnostic test (validated by the LNSP)

Confirmed Case:
Any suspect or probable case with a positive culture for “Viri cocholerae”

Hospitalized case:
Any suspected, probable or confirmed case that spends at least 24 hours in a care institution

Institutional Death:
Any suspected, probable or confirmed case who dies in a care institution

Community Death:
Any suspected case that dies outside a care institution
