Haiti - Reconstruction : Israel and France sign agreement to help Haiti

Israel, represented by Danny Carmon of the Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MASHAV) and France represented by its Ambassador Christophe Bigot have signed last week a declaration of intent for the cooperation and the extension of aid to Haiti and the emerging countries in Africa. The agreement includes joint actions in the fields of agriculture and irrigation and public health.

The development is an important issue on the international agenda, particularly in the context of recent global crises (food, climate change, energy, etc.), which mainly hurts developing countries, many of whom suffer from extreme poverty... Both Israel and France have seen this joint activity as the addition of a new phase of their relationship.

French-Israeli cooperation, which will be implemented by the Israeli Agency, will focus on the sending of experts, consulting, the vocational training and others, appropriate to the needs and wishes of the countries receiving the aid. In the first phase, the countries designated to receive assistance are Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Haiti.

A steering committee composed of representatives of Israel and France, responsible for monitoring the implementation of the agreement and the approval of work plans, will meet once a year. Note that Israel is one of the only country in the world to not provide money to a third country but only material assistance and experts.
