Haiti - Justice : Ammunition trafficking, 2 Haitians imprisoned in the Dominican Republic

Thursday, November 17, 2022, following a request from the Public Prosecutor, Judge César Augusto Quezada of the Court of Permanent Attention Élías Piña pronounced 3 months of preventive detention, as a coercive measure of two women of Haitian nationality Milien Mildrene Manessa (wife of Yvanosky Joachim, vice-delegate of the district of Belladère) and Fara Josef arrested on Tuesday November 8, 2022 during a check at the border post of El Carrizal. After which their criminal responsibilities and resulting procedural status will be determined)

The Public Ministry, represented by the prosecutor Ramil Cadet, showed that the two accused had been caught in flagrante delicto, in violation of articles 265 and 266 of the Dominican Penal Code and article 70 of law 631-16 for the control and the regulation of arms, ammunition and related materials.

Let's recall that during the search of the vehicle of the 2 women, the soldiers discovered 22,160 ammunition including 12,000 cartridges of caliber 7.62 mm and 10,160 of caliber 5.56 mm that the two women were going to bring illegally into Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38088-haiti-flash-more-than-22-000-ammunitionintercepted-in-the-dr-two-haitian-traffickers-arrested.html

Milien Midrene Manessa and Fara Josef, are to be imprisoned in the Correction and Rehabilitation Center of Baní, (Province of Peravia).

The 15-month-old girl who accompanied the two women at the time of their arrests was handed over to her father through the National Council for Childhood and Adolescence (Conani).
