Haiti - FLASH : An arrested Haitian was preparing to commit a killing in a gymnasium in Miami

Former Haitian boxer Azea Augustama aka "Haitian Hitman" 18 career wins, who represented Haiti at the 2008 Olympics, was arrested Wednesday, November 23, 2022 by Miami police after threatening to commit a shooting in a gymnasium BOXR where he worked as a trainer before being fired on November 11, following an altercation with another trainer.

He was arrested after making a $150 deposit at a gun store to buy an AK-47 assault rifle. The threats he had publicly broadcast having been brought to the attention of the Miami Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit by Mateo Attalla, the owner of BOXR.

He posted messages on his Instagram account saying he was planning a "mass shooting" posting a photo of the "Parkland High School" shooting, with a caption saying he was "considering shooting" on a number of people for being kicked out of the gym, including someone who accused him of "touching a girl" "He is the first when I take my gun" he wrote in another message on the social network, accompanied by the photo of a person, while in another publication he declared that he was "ready to shoot with a real gun".

Authorities said Augustama went to a jewelry store (pawnbroker) and then an armory on Tuesday afternoon, where he made a $150 deposit to buy an AK-47 rifle.

After being arrested, the former boxer confessed to being the author of the threats on the internet and wanting to buy the gun. He is charged with making written threats to commit a mass shooting and with threatening to kill or cause bodily harm according to the affidavit.

Azea Augustama had her first appearance Wednesday in a Miami-Dade County court, in which a $3 million bond was imposed and a strict house arrest "[...] total confinement in case the amount is deposited. I believe he poses a great danger to the community, as well as to the victims, given his actions and the threats that have been made," Judge Mindy Glazer said during the hearing.

Augustama is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami.
