Haiti - Reconstruction : At the UN, the President Martelly surprised his interlocutors
The President Michel Martelly, just participated to the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Partners of Haiti in New York, this Monday, September 19, 2011 as part of the 66th UN General Assembly.

This important meeting took place in presence, among others, of the IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno, the former U.S. President Bill Clinton, the U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, the Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs, of the Secretary General of the OAS, as well as foreign ministers of other partner countries, including France, Canada and the Dominican Republic.

During this meeting, the President has clearly defined the priorities of the Republic of Haiti who are, in particular, the education, the reconstruction and job creation and pleads for an increase of the envelope. Some have renewed their commitment and promised an increase of their support. France has, for its part, opted for a more coherence and the "Haitianization" of the reconstruction process.

During the discussion, President Clinton stated that he waited 30 years to hear finally a Haitian Head of State define with as much conviction and detail the priorities of his country. The intervention of the Head of State did not leave, either, indifferent, the delegation of Norway, which admits to having been pessimistic at first but came out optimistic following the presentation of the President.

Send new signals to the International and partners, regarding the renewal of Haiti and its ability to get out of the rut of underdevelopment, has always been a priority for President Martelly and he intends to continue this crusade.

The meeting was also an opportunity for President Martelly to repeat his plea to obtain, of partners, funds that were pledged to Haiti.
