Haiti - FLASH : Pasteur Lafleur, forbidden to leave the territory 05/01/2023 08:41:47 Pastor Lafleur's lawyers have asked the Government Commissioner for a period of 15 days to better respond to this invitation. The Public Prosecutor's Office refused such a long delay and set the next hearing for Monday, January 9, 2023. In addition, Me Jacques Lafontant issued an order prohibiting him from leaving the territory. In addition, Me Lafontant, requests in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Religious Affairs to take precautionary measures against the Pastor writing "[...] The Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Port-au-Prince, acting in his quality as guarantor of social order and under the aegis of public vindictiveness requires you to take, as precautionary measures, the ban on officiating as a Pastor, the duration of which will be determined by the Ministry and any other measures having a corrective and deterrent function." To justify his request Me Jacques Lafontant evokes in his correspondence "[...] the seriousness of the video that has gone viral on social networks depicting the touching of Pastor Armel on a faithful of his Church" underlining "[... ] Pastor Armel Lafleur's actions have deeply disturbed public morality by calling into question the founding values of the Church and tending to undermine its foundation." In addition, Pastor Lafleur is summoned this Thursday, January 5, 2023 by the Director General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs to explain himself about the videos circulating on social networks showing him in "scenes deemed obscene."
