"Transparency International" published on January 31 its global ranking of the Corruption Perceptions Index 2022.

In its annual report, the NGO points out that corruption continues to be a predominant problem and without real significant improvement for more than five years in the vast majority of countries in the Americas. The average Corruption Perceptions Index 2022 score in the region is 43 points, out of a total of 100, and almost two-thirds of countries have less than 50 points. In 27 of the 32 countries in the Americas, no progress has been observed since 2016.

In the Caribbean, Barbados ranks first as the least corrupt country and Haiti ranks last.

In the Americas, countries have failed to adopt strong measures to fight corruption and strengthen public institutions, which has encouraged the consolidation of criminal networks that wield considerable power over political actors, the report indicates. This, in turn, deepens the violence the report underlines.
