Haiti - S.O.S.: More than 5,000 Haitians stranded in Turkey want to return home...
Monday, February 6, 2023, the Lorquet Foundation launched an SOS to the Haitian authorities in order to intervene quickly in favor of Haitians stranded in Turkey. Indeed, many compatriots wish to return home because of the difficult situation they face in this country which they believed to be the Eldorado...

However, the slowness of the administrative machine in Haiti and the budgetary constraints, prevent them from concretizing their wish.

These Haitians, for the most part, are subject to difficulties of all kinds, especially in this winter period, in an irregular migratory situation, they cannot go out into the streets given the behavior of police officers and those of Turkish immigration.

Unable to go anywhere, these compatriots whose number is estimated at "at least 5,000", at the end of their financial resources and unable to afford a plane ticket, are obliged against their will, to stay in Turkey to face an indescribable situation, among others unemployment, malnutrition, cold and racism...

The Lorquet Foundation hopes that this S.O.S. will be taken into consideration immediately by the Haitian authorities in order to allow our compatriots to return to the country.

The FOLONHA wishes that its cry of alarm be heard by those concerned, in particular the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad and that they will work urgently with the International Organization for Migration (IOM ), and the National Observatory of Migration in order to facilitate the return of these Haitians in an irregular migratory situation stuck in Turkey.

Let's recall that 301 Haitians had already been repatriated from Turkey to Haiti in July 2022 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37261-haiti-turkey-135-haitians-voluntarily-repatriated-to-haiti.html, with the assistance from the International Organization for Migration (IOM - Haiti) and IOM - Turkey, in collaboration with the Haitian Chancellery, the Citizen Protection Office and other partners...
