Haiti - Economy : Thousands of additional jobs could be lost by June in the textile sector

After the announcement of the Haitian subcontracting subsidiary S&H Global of the South Korean textile group Sae-A, to close one of their assembly plants and lay off more than 3,500 workers, the "Mouvement Syndical Haïtien" is concerned about the mass layoffs of thousands more workers in the textile sector by June 2023.

Entrepreneurs in the textile sector, victims of growing insecurity which is seriously affecting their production capacity, are facing a shortage of orders, their customers preferring to redirect their orders to other more reliable suppliers in the Caribbean and Central America...

In a press release from the "Mouvement Syndical Haïtien" which includes, among others, the Confederation of Haitian Workers, the National Central of Haitian Workers, the Autonomous Central of Haitian Workers, the National Front of Haitian Trade Unions and the Confederation of Workers of Sectors public and private, estimates that thousands of other job losses in the textile sector are to be expected by June 2023, citing among other things :

Port-au-Prince metropolitan area :

The South Korean textile factory Hansae Haiti S.A (SONAPI) which threatens to dismiss 2,446 workers by March.

In the North-East department of Haiti :
