Haiti - Politic : The OAS votes a resolution concerning the elections and security in Haiti 13/02/2023 08:59:24 Several ambassadors to the OAS have called for urgent action, voting for the creation of working groups to decide how best for member states to participate in issues such as arms trafficking and a force proposal multinational to help the police restore order. Haiti has argued that it needs the support of an international security force to stabilize the gang-plagued country, which controls 60% of the capital, according to the latest UN estimates. Earlier this month, Haiti's Ambassador to the OAS, Charles Léon, reiterated before the organization's plenary session that he needed foreign forces to be sent to his territory to contain the violence and guarantee security in a possible electoral process https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38759-haiti-diplomacy-the-ambassador-of-haiti-reiterates-to-the-oas-his-request-for-the-intervention-of-a-foreign-force.html The OAS approved the creation of a working group no later than February 22, composed of member countries of the organization, so that it maintains a dialogue with the Haitian Executive and finds how to accompany it in the preparation of "inclusive, free, fair, and credible general elections and democratic transition". Council also urged Member States to act urgently to provide assistance in support of the efforts of the Haitian authorities to restore order and security in Haiti. Haitian Chancellor Jean Victor Généus stressed the urgency of acting now and providing concrete support to the country and insisted on "less talk and more action".
