Haiti - FLASH : National survey on the Haitian diaspora in the United States
Ayiti Diaspora Collaborative (ADC) is launching a nationwide survey to better know and understand Haitian-American communities.

This survey is part of a larger research initiative led by CDA, in collaboration with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, to harness the collective strength of the Haitian diaspora.

With the arrival of the first wave of Haitians to the United States in the 1960s, the Haitian diaspora in the United States grew rapidly; today it is estimated at more than one million people according to the American census bureau.

Objectives of the survey:

  • Get a better understanding of the various coalition groups already active within the Haitian Diaspora in the United States;
  • Obtain an accurate overview of the opinions and lived experiences of the Haitian diaspora in the United States, including their socio-economic representation and level of education;
  • Identify the various issues that have a direct impact on the Haitian American community.

"This survey is part of an ongoing effort to determine how the Haitian diaspora can play an active role in economic, political, and social issues in the United States and Haiti," says Dr. Jean-Philippe Austin, Chairman of the Board of the "Haitian American Foundation For Democracy" and responsible for the ADC. “This survey will help us identify values important to the Haitian American community as we work together to continue to build collective power. We look forward to hearing from members of the diaspora. We know a lot has been said about data collection on various social media platforms for example and we appreciate the apprehension people may have. Our investigation guarantees confidentiality and anonymity,” Mr. Austin continued.
