Haiti - Politic : Workshop for the revision of the draft law on the elimination of violence against women

The Ministry for the Status of Women in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP - Haiti) recently held a workshop on the "Revision of the draft law on the sanction, prevention and elimination of violence against women".

This workshop, which aimed to create a definitive legal framework for women's rights in the country, brought together several senior officials representing United Nations system agencies, State institutions, particularly officials from the Ministry, women's organizations and associations) alongside Sofia Loréus the Minister for the Status of Women and Sekou Bangourat who represented for the occasion the Danish Nick René Hartmann Resident Representative of the UNDP in Haiti.

During this workshop, an overall presentation of the draft bill was made by Me Martine Irgie Dorcellus, while making a point-by-point analysis of the main lines.

Subsequently, sub-groups were formed and a plenary presentation was organized in order to take the proposals and recommendations under the supervision of Mr. Rosario Dominique, consultant on the draft law.

This workshop was carried out because of international conventions, including the Inter-American Convention on the Elimination of Violence against Women, to which Haiti subscribed requiring the adoption of specific texts on the sanction, prevention and elimination violence against women and girls.

This workshop was supported by UNDP through Spotlight Initiative funds.
