Haiti - Social Security : $10M from Taiwan in support of the «Kore Pèp» program

Wen-Jiann Ku, the Ambassador of Taiwan (Republic of China in Haiti) signed a partnership agreement with the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) represented by its Director General Paul Harry Voltaire, and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) represented by Minister Odney Pierre Ricot

This agreement concerns the financing of the activities of the "Kore Pèp" Program for the next 18 months to the tune of 10 million US dollars (in donation).

Paul Harry Voltaire, believes that the signing of this partnership agreement demonstrates the clear desire of two sister nations to unite their efforts to achieve a common goal; improving the living conditions of the Haitian population. "To achieve this, it is necessary for the public authorities to work towards the establishment of a developed social safety net, following a modular logic, guaranteeing access for all to food, housing, healthcare health and education."

"Without food security, there will be no social security," said Ambassador Wen-Jiann Ku, who renewed his support for Haiti. “You always have to save the emergency. This is how Taiwan, considering its close friendship and mutual collaboration with the Republic of Haiti, apart from the various long-term cooperation projects that accompany the envelopment of Haiti, renews its support for the “Kore Pèp en a sign of solidarity from the people and the Taiwanese government towards the Haitian people," he said.

Ambassador Ku announced that the first disbursement to FAES under the "Kore Pèp" Program takes effect upon signature of the partnership agreement.

Minister Ricot thanked the Taiwanese Government for its support for Haiti. "On behalf of the vulnerable households that will benefit from this donation, the Haitian Government and MAST asks you to convey its deepest gratitude to your Government."
