Haiti - FLASH : Crisis in Haiti, Trudeau promises money and Biden changes direction
Friday, March 24, 2023, in a joint statement by Prime Minister Trudeau and President Biden concluding his 48-hour visit to Canada, the two leaders express concern about the deteriorating situation in Haiti and are determined to increase community support to the people of Haiti, in particular by offering them security and humanitarian aid and better support for the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

According to a press release from the office of the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, to counter the crisis and support Peace and Security "Canada is investing an additional $100 million to provide enhanced policing support and equipment to the Haitian National Police, to bolster Haitian-led solutions to the crisis and support peace and security", rather than lead an international force of several thousand men in Haiti, as Washington wanted. Regarding Sébastien Carrère equipment, the Canadian Ambassador to Haiti mentioned, among other things, weapons and ammunition in an interview with Le Nouvelliste.

Canada is also imposing sanctions on two other members of the Haitian elite, former senator Nenel Cassy and businessman and former presidential candidate Steeve Khawly whose assets in Canada are frozen and are prohibited from entering Canadian territory. For its part, the United States, which seeks to support the PNH, is now studying whether the United Nations could play a role in suppressing the violence in Haiti "https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38901-haiti-flash-nearly-twenty-haitian-personalities-sanctioned-by-canada.html," Biden said during a press conference with Prime Minister Trudeau, adding "We also are looking at whether or not the international community through the United Nations could play a larger role."

After failing to find a country to take the lead of a multilateral military intervention force in Haiti, Biden now supports the sending of blue helmets of a peace mission (under chapter VII ?). Several informed sources have said that the Biden administration has quietly changed direction in recent days in favor of a peacekeeping mission, the Miami Herald reported Friday, March 24. "It's not ruled out as a possibility, but it's not on the table right now," confirmed Jo Biden.
