Haiti - Fire : Considerable damage to the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (Partial report)
The Rectorate of the State University of Haiti (UEH) learned with pain that a fire of unexplained origin to date, occured at the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV) in Damien around 10:00 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-39305-haiti-news-zapping.html

The fire was brought under control on Friday April 14, 2023 around 3:00 a.m. thanks to the intervention of the firefighters of the town hall of Tabarre.

According to a partial assessment of the damage, the plant pathology laboratory and the biotechnology laboratory, the first and second year rooms, 5 option classrooms and the solar energy system with around fifty solar panels were destroyed by the fire. The Dean of the FAMV is working to establish the final assessment of the damage.

On a support visit after the fire to Jocelyn Louissaint, Dean of the FAMV of the UEH, the Minister of National Education Nesmy Manigat declared "An initial assessment of the situation and urgent decisions will be taken to prevent 460 students lose their academic year."

The Rectorate demands an investigation into this new fire which has caused considerable damage to the FAMV and stands alongside the Deanship at this difficult time.

Recall that in June 2020 the FAMV had already been the victim of a fire https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-31091-haiti-flash-the-faculty-of-agronomy-and-veterinary-medicine-partially-destroyed-by-fire.html
