Haiti - Nippes : Construction of 20 agricultural product processing units
As part of the "Resilient Productive Territories" (TPR) project financed by the World Bank (WB), the Government has been building since March 2023 20 agricultural product production and processing units in the Nippes department. These are located in the municipalities of Anse-à-Veau (7), Petite-Rivière de Nippes (6), Paillant (4) and Fonds-des-Nègres (3).

According to the explanations provided by the TPR's infrastructure specialist, the Agricultural Engineer, Jean Gardy Lochard, these works are set up with the idea of avoiding post-harvest losses in the areas concerned by the project.

With these new infrastructures, the objective of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment is to bring added value to the agricultural sector to enable farmers to increase their turnover, promote the sector agriculture while fighting against food insecurity in the country and the overexploitation of biodiversity.

Thanks to this project, new jobs are created in the beneficiary municipalities, from the construction of infrastructures to the processing and distribution of products.

Construction work on these processing units, making it possible to produce, among other things, starch flour, cassava and honey, is at an advanced stage.

With this Project, Franck Pierre Louis, President of the Movement for the Development of Petite-Rivière de Nippes (MODEPRN), aims to enhance national production through the processing of cassava at the level of "Nan Pikan", a locality of Petite-Rivière. of Nippes. His factory, he added, will produce cassava in abundance for marketing and will create jobs in the municipality of Petite-Rivière de Nippes, where the cassava sector is highly valued.
