Serious accident on the RN#2
Tuesday May 23, 2023, on the RN#2 at Morne Tapion, the driver of a platform truck carrying a load of cement lost control of his vehicle and hit another truck with food products. The accident killed 3 people, one of the victims was on board the cement truck, the other two, passers-by who were on the side of the road who were crushed to death by the cement truck.
WHO : Haiti to the aid of Taiwan
Following the exclusion of Taiwan from the Annual Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), as an observer country (China and its allies having succeeded in blocking Taiwan's participation), Justin Viard, the Ambassador Representative Permanent Representative of Haiti to the UN declared "We all agree that no one is protected, no one is healthy if we are not all protected and healthy. In this sense, Haiti requests the participation of Taiwan as an observer at the WHO. Following this statement Taiwan said "We thank Haiti for the unwavering support it has always shown to Taiwan on the international scene. However, Taiwan is still allowed to attend some WHO technical meetings."
Women's basketball : Appointment of the National Coach
The Federal Office of the Haitian Basketball Federation (FHB) announces the appointment of Maurice Romelus as National Coach of the national women's basketball team 5x5 (U-25) to participate in the Francophonie Games in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (July 28 to August 5, 2023).
Football : Conditions of participation of our players
Wednesday, May 24, 2023, Raymonde Rival the Minister of Sports, accompanied by her Chief of Staff and several executives, had a working session with the members of the Standardization Committee of the Haitian Football Federation (FHF). During this meeting, the files for the participation in the Gold Cup and the Australia/New Zealand World Cup were discussed as well as a partnership around the "Football For School" program. The Minister Rival promised to ensure the rapid follow-up of these files with the highest authorities of the State in order to put our Grenadiers (men and women) in the best conditions of preparation for these various competitions.
3.9 million cigarettes seized from Haiti
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, members of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps seized 3.9 million units of contraband cigarettes seized from Haiti, mainly of the POINT and CAPITAL brand.
