Haiti - NOTICE : Artistic Research Residency, Call for Applications
The Artistic Research Residence offered by the Association "Quatre Chemins" (A4C) is a program dedicated to artistic research in Haiti. It is a question of offering innovative creators in all fields the opportunity to spend precious time developing their projects in the interior cities of the country. Through this program, the association aims on the one hand to support artists from the very beginning of their creative ideas, but also to the effective decentralization of cultural proposals too often confined to Port-au-Prince.

Supported by the French Institute in Paris, the residencies are carried out in partnership with local cultural institutions, which benefit from the workshops led by the selected artists, intended for residents of the respective areas: art centers, performance halls, libraries, museums, art galleries, schools, prisons, etc… All artistic disciplines are concerned: living arts, visual arts, transdisciplinary, etc...

Scheduled for one month, the stay in residence leads to a public restitution of the project carried out in the studio by the artist with a few local participants. The winners will be awarded a lump sum living allowance of the equivalent in Gourdes of 1,000 US dollars.

Eligibility criteria:
The candidate must:

  • Be a creator in a discipline of the living and/or visual arts, or trans-disciplinary, etc…;
  • Have an artistic project related to an interior city of Haiti;
  • Proof of several years (at least 3 years) of professional practice;
  • Be released from their professional activity during the stay;
  • No age limit required.

Application file :

  • A precise description of the project indicating the specific objectives of the stay in relation to a given city. The residency period desired by the artist must be indicated between September and October;
  • A short CV;
  • An artistic file (photo, audio, video CD, or documents by email);
  • The project and CV must be written in French and/or Creole.

Funding and support:
The winner will receive 80% of their living allowance when leaving their residence. The balance will be paid to him upon return, upon receipt of a report of the stay which must be submitted within two months of the return.

  • Any reduction in the length of the stay will result in a deduction in proportion to the number of days actually spent on site;
  • Payments will only be made once the administrative procedures have been settled with the Association Quatre Chemins. The living allowance awarded to the winner is fixed and final. All costs and expenses incurred outside of this allowance remain the responsibility of the winner. Under no circumstances may the stay be split;
  • If, for personal or professional reasons, the winner cannot maintain their stay during the current year, it cannot under any circumstances be postponed to the following year. The winners are required to pay for their transport and insurance. They will be held responsible for any damage that may result from the execution of their stay programs;
  • It is recognized that the program may make changes if circumstances so require. In this case, the winners will be formally informed without prejudice to the objectives pursued.

Calendar :
July 30, 2023: closing of applications
August 15, 2023: announcement of results
September / October 2023: Residency period
