Haiti - Weather : Tips and tricks to fight against high heat

As noted in recent days, temperatures are high in Haiti, a situation that can cause serious health problems.

In addition to fatigue, heat can cause serious and even fatal accidents, such as dehydration or heat stroke.

The Alliance for Risk Management and Business Continuity (AGERCA), focal point for the private business sector and civil society within the National System for Risk and Disaster Management, shares with you some security and safety to be observed in case of high heat :

  • Regularly consult the weather report to inform you of the day's temperature;

  • Avoid going out between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., the hottest time of the day;

  • Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration; at least 1.5 liters per day;

  • Wet or cool your skin with cold water several times during the day;

  • Eliminate any additional source of heat around you;

  • Adapt your diet with water-rich foods such as cucumber, watermelon / melon / cantaloupe etc...;

  • Wear light and light clothing to facilitate the skin's respiration;

  • Cover your head in the sun with a hat or similar when you go out;

  • Lighten your workload with short work/rest cycles;

  • Avoid excessive physical activity to reduce your body's heat production;

  • Reduce or avoid consumption of alcoholic beverages (including beer and wine.
