APN Regional Director North kidnapped

Bandits kidnapped in Torcelle Pierre Richard Joseph the North Regional Director of the National Port Authority (APN). One of his drivers was killed by his captors who would demand a large ransom for his release.

The United States for a multinational force

During a ministerial meeting convened by the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs on the security crisis in Haiti in which Antony Blinken participated, the American Secretary of State acknowledged the difficulties encountered by the National Police of Haiti (PNH) despite the assistance from countries friendly to Haiti and affirmed that the United States supports the calls of the Haitian authorities for the deployment of a multinational force in the country.

Canada does not rule out police intervention in Haiti

The federal deputy for the riding of Bourassa, Quebec, Emmanuel Dubourg, of Haitian origin, declared that Ottawa "does not rule out the possibility of an intervention, not military, but police in Haiti" in order to help the Haitian police to restore security "as soon as possible". He said RCMP officers would prepare for such an eventuality.

6 Haitian athletes at the Special Olympics World Games

6 Haitian athletes represent Haiti at the Special Olympics World Games which takes place in Berlin (Germany from June 17 to 25). Renia Joseph, Christelle Paul and Widjmy Charles will participate in the 100 meters and 200 meters athletics competitions; Darlène Milord and Ketia Jean-Louis, riding; and Genet Ducame, the only Haitian male athlete participating in these games, will be in table tennis. Conald Colbert the Head of the Haitian delegation in Berlin is convinced that our athletes, based on their sports credentials, have "100% chance of winning a medal each in their category".

SOUTHCOM alongside the Haitian Coast Guard

U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) reaffirmed its support for the Haitian Coast Guard in building its capabilities and skills, and is delighted to welcome Pedro Mars, Commander of the Haitian Coast Guard, to Jamaica at the World Defense Trade Show and Security of Canada (CANSEC 2023).

Edwidge Danticat winner of the 2023 PEN/Malamud Prize

The PEN/Faulkner Foundation has announced that Haitian-American writer Edwidge Danticat is the winner of the 2023 PEN/Malamud Prize which aims to recognize writers who have demonstrated exceptional mastery in the art of short story. She will officially receive the award at a ceremony on December 1st, 2023.
