Haiti - FLASH : At least 35 small houses of Haitians destroyed in a fire in the Dom. Reoublic
"It is with great sadness that we received the bad news of the fire that hit hard on Tuesday our brothers and sisters who live in the sector of La Grúa" (municipality of Imbert, Province of Puerto Plata). declared Jean Gardy Marius, the Consul General of Haiti in Santiago in the Republic.

This terrible fire destroyed more than 35 small houses and most of the belongings of these families.

To extinguish the fire, firefighters from the municipality of Imbert received support from units from the municipalities of Puerto Plata, Altamira, Guananico, Luperón and Los Hidalgos, as well as water delivery trucks and rescue organizations from the province, Civil Defense, Amber Rescue, National 9-1-1 Emergency System and other institutions.

The blaze was extinguished overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday and firefighters and relief organizations are working to determine the exact number of people and homes affected.

Pedro Martínez, colonel of that city's fire department, said there were no casualties or injuries. An investigation has been opened to determine the origin of this fire.

Consul Jean Gardy Marius quickly went to the scene of the disaster to comfort and accompany the victims, most of whom did not have time to save anything from the flames...

He took the opportunity to discuss with them in order to take their grievances, and follow up on their cases “It's not an easy thing to live with, but once again we show that shared, the burdens are less heavy to bear. The Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago will always be closer to you and available to accompany you," said the Consul.
