Thursday, Ms. Sophia Martelly, the First Lady of Haiti, completed its first working day in Brasilia [the capital of Brazil], where she is since Wednesday. The delegation which accompanies the First Lady is composed of Mr. Klaus Eberwein, Adviser to the President, Béatrice Dalencour-Turnier, Technical Advisor to the First Lady, Ms. Myrta Kaulard, representative of the World Food Programme (WFP) and Raphy Favre, expert of WFP.

This Thursday, the First Lady of the Republic held talks with officials from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Development and fight against hunger, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and supplies.

These meetings allowed the delegation to get an idea of the nature and of the nd management mechanisms of the strategy "FOME ZERO" ; to better proceed with the launch of the program "Aba grangou" in Haiti. [an extensive program of support to food of the most disadvantaged in Haiti], initiated by the Presidency and under the auspices of the Office of the First Lady.

Brazil was chosen based on the results of their strategy "FOME ZERO" which led to an effective response to food security problems of the most needy in this country and out of poverty millions of Brazilians.

The Centre of Excellence against Hunger (a joint program of the Brazilian government and WFP) is ready to receive 5 to 7 Haitian technicians to benefit from a two-week training on the strategy "FOME ZERO". This will allow them to study the mechanisms of the program and make concrete proposals. They also promised to detach a team of Brazilian technicians to assist the Haitian Government in the implementation of its strategy to fight against hunger.

This Friday, the First Lady will have other sessions with the Minister of Agricultural Development, the President of the Food Safety Council. She will also visit a public school of the Federal District to experience school meals.
