Haiti - PNH / PM : Back on the working day with the Kenyan delegation

On Wednesday August 23, 2023, Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry met with the High Command of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), which, the day before had had a working day with the Kenyan delegation around the support that will be provided for the strengthening of the institution and its adaptation to new forms of crime in Haiti.

The High Command of the National Police, in full force, carried out with the Prime Minister the summary of the working day with the Kenyan delegation which was chaired by Ambassador Georges Orina.

This day of work allowed the High Command of the PNH to specify what it wanted and expected from the aid that was going to be provided (if the UN Security Council votes in favor) for the reinforcement of the Police and for allow it to become more efficient.

This first visit by the Kenyan delegation was very useful, according to the High Command. It made it possible, among other things, to confirm that all the parties had the same understanding of the mission: it will not be there to replace the PNH or to carry out its work, it will come to help it become more efficient, more adapted, more able to fulfill its mission to protect and serve.

The High Command of the Police is delighted that the Haitian Police is present at all phases of the preparation of the mission and is in the reflection for the best possible articulation in order to obtain results which, from the first moments, will change the life of the population and will allow them to regain their freedom of movement and to live peacefully in their neighborhoods.

The High Command stressed that one of the requests of the National Police was the formation of special intervention units within the institution in order to face the increasing security challenges and guarantee the stability of the country.

The Kenyan delegation left Haiti on August 23.
