Haiti - Social : Mgr. Dumas calls for a Citizen awakening
Mgr. Pierre-André Dumas, Roman Catholic Bishop of Anse-à-Veau/Miragoâne (Dept. of Nippes) calls for a Citizen awakening in order to take control of the destiny of Haiti.

"We call, with vigor, for a Citizen awakening to cling to the cardinal virtues and true civic and universal values, to resist the dictatorship of individualism and give Haiti a new beginning, which is based, above all, on spiritual values, on rational ideas and not on class and caste interests or on commercial ideologies, which trivialize and desacralize life."

Furthermore, he considers it imperative to rally the moral forces, the intellectual, economic and political elites, with a view to national rescue. "The collapse is so profound that a solemn appeal must be launched to those who are able to contribute to the definition and respect of the major benchmarks, likely to guide the future of the Nation," he also invites the citizens not to accept the horror of war and savage barbarities to the detriment of life, encouraging them to fight against public injustices, perpetrated by individuals, governments, businesses and associations and non-governmental organizations.

"We must also build bridges and launch bridges for the revaluation of the life of the Haitian being, stop violence in all its forms and proceed to the construction of a new society. We must seal, together, a fraternal alliance pact between us, to participate in the future of the Haitian being," he concluded.
