Haiti - Economy : Inflation slows on an annual basis (August-September)
The Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) informs that monthly inflation in August (+1.4%) and September (+2.3%) 2023 continued to increase, but notes a sliding decline annual 37.3% in August and 31.8% in September compared to 43.9% in June and 39.8% in July.

The year-on-year increase observed in September 2023 of 31.8% is the result in particular of consumption functions, the most important of which are:

"Food products and non-alcoholic beverages": +3.1% over one month and 29.3% over one year;
"Clothing and footwear": +1.0% over one month and 24.3% over one year;
"Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels": +1.8% over one month and 39.1% over one year
"Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance": +1.3% over one month and 26.1% over one year

Products having recorded more pronounced annual inflation:

Food:
Rice (on average 31.0%), meat (on average 41.8%), milk (on average 31.4%), edible oil (43.4%) and sugar (on average 29.0%) .

Article of clothing and shoes:
Dress (32.5%), shirt (26.3%), men's pants (20.9%), shoes, sneakers (23.1%) and sandals (24.7%)

Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance:
Living room furniture (39.2%), dining room (22.0%), generator (30.8%) and laundry soap (26.5%).

Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels:
Housing rent (48.5%), charcoal (23.5%), propane gas (21.0%) and kerosene (86.5%)

The prices of local products and those of imported products increased respectively by 2.2% and 2.5% month-on-month, and by 31.3% and 32.5% year-on-year.

Consumer Price Index for the whole country by consumption function:
General index: 37.3% over one year in August 2023 and 29.3% over one year in September.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: annual basis, August: 17.8%; September 13.1%
Clothing and footwear: annual basis, August: 29.5%; September 24.3%
Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels: annual basis, August: 42.8%; September 39.1%
Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance: annual basis, August: 31.7%; September 26.2%
Health: annual basis: August: 24.4%; September 19.8%
Transport: August: 91.4%; September 86.7%
Communication: August: 17.1%; September 13.3%
Leisure: August: 20.1%; September 16.4%
Education: August: 12.4%; September 8.9%
Restaurants: August: 32.6%; September 25.7%
Miscellaneous goods and services: August: 22%; September 18.0%

Local Products CPI: 2022 September 30.9% October 39.0%; November 37.4%; December 40.9% 2023 January 41.8%; February 41.3%; March 42.3%; April 42.6%; May 41.9%; June 41.1%; July 38.6%; August 36.6%; September 31.3%

CPI of Imported Products: 2022 September 52.0%; October 61.0%; November 59.1%; December 60.2% 2023 January 61.5%; February 59.4%; March 57.8%; March 56.1%; April 56.1%; May 53.4%; June 48.2%; July 41.5%; August 38.2%; September 32.6%

CPI by geographic region:
All geographic regions contributed to the rise in inflation. However, the variation Rest West (33.6%) and South (32.8%) are the largest.

Metropolitan Area: annual basis, August 35.4%; September 29.8%
(Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Carrefour and Croix des Bouquet);

Rest West: annual basis, August 39.0%; September 33.6%
(South-East and West Departments without the metropolitan area);

North: annual basis, August 37.5%; September 32.8%
(North, North East and North West Departments);

South: annual basis, August 38.4%; September 32.8%
(Department of South, Grande-Anse and Nippes);

Transversal: annual basis, August 37.7%; September 32.6%
(Department of Center and Artibonite).
