Haiti - FLASH : The country under threat of a tropical depression placed on yellow alert

A low pressure area transformed into a tropical depression Thursday evening (the 22nd of the season), located at 16.3 degrees North and 80.3 degrees West. It is moving at 16 km/h in a North-East direction (at 4:00 a.m. this Friday, November 27).

The National Hurricane Center is forecasting an 80% probability that this depression will become a tropical storm affecting Jamaica, Southeast Cuba, Haiti Southeast Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Tropical storm watches are in effect for these areas.

This system risks causing torrential rains, significant wind gusts and dangerous sea conditions which will first affect the South, South-East and Grand'Anse regions on Friday November 17 at midday and then generalize across the country.

Heavy rains will affect Haiti until Monday morning. This precipitation is likely to produce flash flooding, as well as mudslides in areas of higher terrain.

Friday & Saturday : Heavy rains, strong gusts of wind and dangerous sea conditions are forecast for Haiti.
