Haiti - FLASH : Arrest of a new suspect in the assassination of President Moïse 21/11/2023 06:05:41 Defense lawyer Jimmy Jean-Baptiste said Monday that Jacmel's interim executive agent, Macky Kessa, had been arrested but not charged. He said Kessa was being held at Haiti's national penitentiary in the capital, Port-au-Prince, and planned to seek his release. "Sorry, I can't say much but the main thing is that my client came to the investigating judge's square, he spent about three hours answering the Magistrate's questions and after the hearing, he issued a deposition order against my client," the lawyer said. It was not immediately clear why Kessa was arrested. Mayor Kessa made a brief statement to the press to simply reiterate the secrecy of the instruction. "The hearing of any judge is secret. I couldn't say anything because it is secret." Jean-Baptiste declined to comment further, noting that the investigation is ongoing. Judge Walther Wesser Voltaire, who is investigating the case, has not yet made any comments. Judge Voltaire is due to hear this week several other new defendants in the magnicide of July 7, 2021, including the former Minister of Justice and Public Security, Rockefeller Vincent. As part of the ongoing investigation, Judge Walter Wesser Voltaire also wishes to hear Léon Charles, the representative of Haiti to the OAS, Josué Pierre Louis, the secretary general of the palace as well as Fils-Aimé Ignace Saint-Fleur the Director of the Bmpad. The investigating judge has already sent a letter to the government commissioner of Port-au-Prince, Me Edler Guillaume, asking him to take all necessary measures so that the aforementioned personalities appear in his office.
