Haiti - Politic : 36th anniversary of the Ruelle Vaillant Massacre (Message from Prime Minister a.i. Henry)

Wednesday November 29, 2023, as part of the commemoration of the 36th anniversary of the Ruelle Vaillant Massacre (Argentine Bellegarde School), in this sad and painful event in the history of the country, Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry laid a wreath flowers in memory of around twenty voters cowardly murdered at the Ruelle Vaillant polling station by neo-Duvalierist paramilitaries, with the active complicity of the Armed Forces of Haiti, on November 29, 1987, ballots in hand, while they had come to fulfill their civic duty for these first elections under the 1987 Constitution

In a message, Ariel Henry said:

"On this November 29, I call for union, solidarity, fraternity with a view to the common construction of the new Haiti where progress, the rule of law and democratic values will necessarily prevail over anarchy, intolerance, sectarianism and disunity.

"36 years later, nothing will be able to erase this atrocious evil which aimed to slow down the momentum of the Haitian people to fulfill their civic duty. 36 years later, our sad thoughts still go to our brothers and sisters tragically killed that day, as well as to their loved ones still affected by their disappearance.

"On this November 29, I laid a wreath of flowers in memory of the victims of the massacre in Ruelle Vaillant. 36 years later, we remember these valiant voters murdered, ballots in hand. 36 years later, the wound is still gaping and the memories still alive."
