Haiti - FLASH : Resumption of binational commercial activities at the Dajabón market

Friday December 15 the day after the destruction of the border gate on the Haitian side with the help of a truck https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41210-haiti-flash-haitians-break-down-the-border-gate-with-a-container-truck-video.html which allowed the formal resumption of commercial activities at the Dajabón market, to sell or buy goods under strict military security measures.

Haitian buyers and sellers positioned themselves on the customs esplanade and in a rational manner were able to access the border market.

At first there was some opposition to biometric registration, but the Cesfront authorities managed the situation so that they could buy and sell, moreover, those who presented their documents could pass without any inconvenience due to the limitation of the passage of heavy vehicles…

Haitian merchants transported their goods in wheelbarrows, carts, three-wheeled motorcycles and even crossing on foot with their goods...

According to some Haitian testimonies, no problems were reported with the Haitian authorities when they returned to Haiti with the goods.

In the stores and grocery stores on both sides of the border, there was a frenzy, Haitians and Dominicans had only one goal: to get supplies as quickly as possible...

The departmental authorities have not yet officially reacted to the destruction of the border gate, one of which was thrown into the Massacre River, but they have obviously been cautious in order to avoid an uprising of the population with unpredictable consequences.

The municipal authorities also remained passive, but requested that an investigation be opened in order to establish responsibilities for the destruction of the border gate.
