Haiti - Education : A School of Trades of Water and of the Sanitation (EMEA)

A School of Trades of Water and of the Sanitation (EMEA) will probably emerge in Haiti. To define the contours of the latter, the International Office for Water (IOW), in partnership with the National School of Engineers of Water and Environment (ENGEES), has conducted the feasibility study. This study was conducted as part of the Fund of Studies and Support for Private Sector (FASEP) under the leadership of AgroParisTech, which realizes in 2011 the training of managers of emergency of the water in Haiti.

The study conducted between April and September 2011 had the purpose to define the capacity building needs of the sector but also, the technical outlines, of governance, and financial allowing the creation of such a structure.

The EMEA should cover an area of training very important. Academic levels should be multiple : bachelor's, master ... The School should support the training for qualifications (initial training), as well as the technical trades issued from qualifying training (continuing education), taught in the form of short internships.

At the end of this feasibility study the dimensional principles of the school and its specific teaching equipment will be known. Possible funding mechanisms will be presented and discussed in order to make the structure sustainable and autonomous over time.

The local issues of the country are among the difficulties of the approach: IOW, involved for several years in Haiti, was able to more easily integrate these particularities while applying its mastery of teaching-oriented to the trades and infrastructure... The optimization is also sought by combining finely the qualifying training and with certification.
