Haiti - Politic : The situation in Haiti back on the CARICOM Agenda 07/01/2024 08:53:18
Saturday, December 6, 2024, the 7th meeting of the principal heads of government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Haiti was held today under the Presidency of Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and Acting President of the CARICOM, to review the situation in Haiti and determine further action toward a Haitian-led solution to the crisis. The leaders received a briefing from the CARICOM Eminent Persons Group and recognized the significant efforts being made to facilitate political consensus among stakeholders in Haiti. They also took into account the state of preparations for the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS). The leaders recognized Jamaica's role in coordinating the Community's efforts in this regard, as well as the vital contributions of Foreign Ministers. The heads of State remain seriously concerned by the deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in Haiti, while the political and security crises persist with the terrible consequences of this situation on the most vulnerable. They noted that the growing violence had led to the loss of thousands of lives and forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes. The Heads of State called on all stakeholders in Haiti to deploy all possible efforts to urgently reach a political resolution and the implementation of a transitional road map towards stability, the facilitation of humanitarian aid, the holding of credible elections, the restoration of political and institutional legitimacy and long-term development for the Haitian people. The Community remains determined to work with the population and all parties concerned in Haiti in favor of Peace and sustainable development. CARICOM looks forward to enhanced collaboration and coordination of efforts with Haiti's friends and the international community at large in support of Haiti. HL/ HaitiLibre
