Haiti - Security : China sent a squadron in Haiti
A squadron of police left Beijing yesterday evening to take part to the United Nations Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah), declared Tuesday the Ministry of Public Security of China in a statement.

The group of 16 members, sent by the Office of the municipal police of Beijing, including staff from the departments of criminal investigation, traffic management, fire control, police training... the ministry said.

The squadron received training from May to July for the mission. Members received an instruction on international law, first aid, English and other subjects that will serve them during their mission.

China has sent over 1,700 police officers in peacekeeping missions of the UN Peace throughout the world, East Timor, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Liberia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Haiti and southern Sudan since January 2000, according to the ministry.

In Haiti, according to the latest report presented to the UN Security Council, the Chinese presence within the Minustah is composed of 29 United Nations police officers, this new team comes to replace a part of these police officers.
