Unprecedented peasant initiative

Following the control of the main roads by armed individuals, notably in Mariani and Martissant, at the southern entrance to Port-au-Prince, peasants from the South-East with their makeshift means decided to transform their problems into solutions in order to provide services to the population who face serious traffic difficulties. These farmers took the initiative to carry out improvement work themselves on the section of road linking Kenscoff to Jacmel via Seguin in order to facilitate access to the Great South.

Education : Thousands of children deprived of their rights

In recent months, some schools, notably in the Artibonite department and in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, have closed for fear of being trapped by the violence of armed groups. Numerous temporary closures of establishments were also noted due to movements associated with certain demonstrations in various departments, particularly in Grand'Anse and the North-East. Other establishments are closed to serve as temporary shelters for displaced families. The number of internally displaced people increased to around 314,000 in January 2024...
