Haiti - Reconstruction : Drinking water in Ouanaminthe, Phase II of the rehabilitation

The rehabilitation and extension works of water supply systems (SAEP) in the city of Ouanaminthe are in their second implementation phase. These works include the construction of the water pipe network designed for 6,400 residential connections.

The second phase of works are progressing quickly. According to the technical director of the National Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), the engineer Emmanus Dorval, works on the production and storage site, for the construction of a reservoir with a capacity of 1.100 cubic meters, are fully completed. In addition, four (4) km of water pipes with a diameter of 6, 8, 12 and 14 inches have been installed to date.

As part of this rehabilitation plan, it is also planned to build a water tower in steel structure of 30 meters with a capacity of 1,100 cubic meters, or 300.000 gallons in capacity.

In addition, the construction of a pipe network and of water supply of 32 km with a diameter of 2 to 14 inches, the installation of 40 hydrants and several public fountains in different parts of the city, are also to be made, said the technical Director.

Work in progress, are funded by the Haitian government and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) up to 7 million U.S. dollars. Their execution is ensured by a consortium Hispanic Haitian, Metro Agua, INCATEMA SL and A&R S.A (Antoine and Reinbold) and is supervised by the SMI Group (Canada) and Compact ingénierie (Haiti).

The completion of the work, which began in March 2011, should be completed within 12 months.
