Haiti - Security : The Dominican Republic strengthens border surveillance

Sunday March 3rd, 2024, following the attack by gangs on the two largest penitentiaries in Haiti, followed by a major escape, the Dominican Ministry of Defense increased the contingent of military forces deployed on the Dominican-Haitian border.

Brigadier General Freddy Soto Thormann, Director General of Cesfront, informed that the border remains secure with the necessary military reinforcement and that they will continue to apply restrictive measures if necessary.

Thormann stressed that they are carrying out coordinated and joint actions with the General Commander of the Army, General Carlos Fernández Onofre.

The Army and the Cesfront maintain increased surveillance and patrols along all of Haiti's border provinces to guard against any eventuality on the part of the Haitians.

Dominican Army troops travel the main border points aboard armored units, all-terrain vehicles, trucks, motorcycles and buggies.

Meanwhile, at the Cesfront border post, immigration and intelligence agencies have increased their staffing levels.
