Haiti - Politic : Promises of new Director of National Press

Mr. Pierre Robert Auguste, Director of National Press was installed yesterday, to replace Willem Edward who served for seven years. In his installation speech, the new Director promised among other things: a vocational school for the printing trades in January 2012.

"...from January [2012], I will introduce to the national press, a training school that will allow Haitians to learn the printing trades. I'll put a supervisory board within this school, which will be representative of publishers, printers and all other entities that are interested. Thus, when we will need a technician, as if happening today [...] to make the repair of a press, we are no longer obliged to bring it from Saint-Domingue.

We will establish, a representation of the national press in all provincial cities [...] we will introduce the CELEC [Centre of Reading and Writing], which will enable young people to have books at their disposal [...] we will teach them to write and also we will create a literary prize for them.

We also study the possibility, for people who have been literate, so there have not cut, to create a newspaper for them [...] A journal in which I wish there are sponsors, in order to distribute it for free, like it's done abroad..."
